AWARDS EVENING – 2019 SEASON
The Club’s eighth annual Awards Evening was held on Saturday 1st February at the Churchtown Conservative Club, when members celebrated a successful 2019 season. The evening was again hosted by Club Chairman, Chris Harding, who congratulated the members present on another excellent season.
Awards were made to the winners and runners-up of the Club’s nine internal competitions and team merit winners, details of which have been reported during the course of the season and in the 2019 Season Review. These were followed by the Club’s special awards, presented to the Team of the Year and the Club Member of the Year.
The team award deservedly went to the Owls, our Monday evening Maghull League team. This mixed team, captained by Sue Davies had another outstanding season. Having only been promoted to the 3rd Division the previous year, they again achieved a league and knockout cup double. Well done to Sue and all her team.
The Club Member of the Year award was this year won by Mark Rowlinson. In addition to captaining the Ospreys in the Burscough League, Mark represents the Club as Delegate for this league as well as being one of the Club’s two Auditors. No organisation can operate without it’s members taking on volunteer roles and the Committee was pleased to recognise the work that Mark has contributed to our Club over a number of years.
The final presentation of the evening was made to Sue Davies, who has completed a very successful two-year term as our President. The Chairman thanked Sue for the excellent way in which she has carried out this important role and presented her with an engraved watch as a momento of her time in office.
We would also like to thank the Churchtown Conservative Club for allowing us to use their excellent facilities once again and in particular Gill, the Club Steward, for her hard work on the night.
Many thanks to Sue Davies, Janice Hobson, Kevin Leddy and Mark Rowlinson for their help selling the raffle tickets.
A special thank you must also go to George Hitchmough for co-ordinating the arrangements for the whole evening and to Sue Andersen, who helped George with the catering.
Finally, thank you to all those who supported the event by attending on the night and providing prizes for the raffle. Final proceeds came to £330.97, which will go towards Club funds.
BURSCOUGH LEAGUE
2020 is a special year for the Hesketh Arms Bowling Club as it is our turn to hold the Presidency of the Burscough League, the first time we have had this honour. Club Chairman, Chris Harding, has been nominated by our Committee to be Burscough League President for the forthcoming season. Chris has played in the Burscough League for many years and is currently captain of the Vultures in the 1st Division of the league.
The club holding the Presidency hosts the League President’s Day, the Steve Rimmer singles competition and the finals of the League Pairs, so this season is going to be busier than ever at the Hesketh Arms. Dates for these events will be publicised when confirmed with the league.

CLOSE SEASON WORK & MAINTENANCE
The Club is again indebted to our Honorary Vice-President, Bernard O’Malley and Nationwide Produce for their generous help in funding the end-of-season work, which is essential in providing the quality playing surface which we have become accustomed to at the Hesketh Arms. This is undertaken as early as possible in October once the green has been closed. Any delay in carrying out this vital work out would result in it not being as effective.
Thanks should also go to Graham Meadow and George Hitchmough for their ongoing work in co-ordinating the jobs which need doing around the green and the surrounds, which continues throughout the close season.
