RANDOM PAIRS
A good turnout of 30 members and guests from the Churchtown Conservative Club took part in our Random Pairs competition on Saturday.
The main competition was won by Andy Draper and Paul Vincent, who defeated George Hitchmough and Kevin Morrissey in the final. The losing semi-finalists were Colin Edge and Paul Harrison and Jamie Barton and Graham Meadow.
R Plate competition was held for pairs losing in their first match. This was won by Ellie McNeill and Derek Wignall. Runners Up Liz Morrisey Lynda Edge
We look forward to staging further joint events with the Conservative Club during the course of the season and have plans for a Summer Round Robin and a Team Challenge.
SOUTHPORT FEDERATION
The Southport Federation team’s next fixture will take place this Sunday 31st May, when they take on familiar opponents in Fylde. The home leg is taking place at Scarisbrick NSC and Bill Roddan, Will Roddan and Fergal Wright have all been selected to play. The away team will be making the short trip to St. Annes and the team includes Colin Edge and Darren Edgerley
Both legs will start at 2.00 pm and spectators will be very welcome.
Bill McGreavy Funeral details
The funeral for Bill McGreavy will be at Southport Crematorium at 3pm on Tuesday 2nd June.
Everyone is welcome at the Crematorium and at the Hesketh Golf Club following the funeral to remember Bill.
ROSE BOWL
ROSE BOWL
Congratulations to Derek Wignall on winning the Rose Bowl, the club’s first singles competition of the season. Derek had a narrow escape in his second match, just overcoming Colin Edge 21-20, before reaching the final with a 21-11 win against Andy Draper in the semi-final. His opponent in the final was Darren Edgerley, who had come through a close semi-final against Steve McManus. Darren started well in the final, scoring 2s at the first couple of ends but Derek had played consistently well all afternoon and eventually ran out a 21-15 winner.
A Plate competition was held, and this was won by Mal Green, with a 15-8 win against Alan Lloyd in the final.
RANDOM DOUBLES – SATURDAY 23rd MAY
The next event at the club will be a Random Doubles, to be held on Saturday 23rd May. Pairings will be drawn on the day. To enter, please register by 11.45 am for a 12 noon start.
For this competition, we will be inviting members of the Churchtown Conservative Club to take join us, as part of our continuing programme of events aimed at increasing usage of the green and expanding our membership.

ROSE BOWL
Sunday 10th May – Rose Bowl. This will be a singles handicap, with a plate competition for players losing in their first game.
Registration from 11.45 am for a 12 noon start.
RANDOM DOUBLES
Saturday 23rd May – Random Doubles – This competition will be open to bowling club members and Churchtown Conservative Club members. Pairings will be drawn out on the day. 12 noon start.
HELP REQUIRED – WEDNESDAY 6th MAY
On the evening of Wednesday 6th May, a group of local business people have booked the green for a taster session of crown green bowling. As many of the guests will be new to bowls, we require a few helpers to show them the basics of the game. SOUTHPORT LV LEAGUE – HANDICAP SINGLES
The first LV League competition of the season will be the Handicap Singles. The qualifying rounds will take place on Tuesday 12th May, at various league greens, with matches starting at 7.00 pm. The finals will be held on Sunday 17th May at Fleetwood Hesketh, the start time to be confirmed. Entry is open to all LV League players and costs £3. Please let Mike or Chris know as soon as possible if you wish to play in this competition.
SOUTHPORT FEDERATION
The Southport Federation team’s first match of the season resulted in a 19 points to 13 defeat against Flintshire. The home leg was held at Hesketh Bank Bowling Club and Southport gained a narrow 11 chalk win. Amongst the six winners at home were Andy Draper (21-9), Darren Edgerley (21-15) and Bill Roddan (21-18). The away team travelled to Aston Bowling Club in Queensferry and came away with five winners, including Fergal Wright (21-20) and Colin Edge (21-19).
The Southport team will be looking to bounce back with a win when they take on Fylde in their second fixture of the season. Venues and line-ups will be publicised in due course.

Sunday 7th June – Blowick Cup Champion of Champions – this is an invitational singles event for winners of our club competitions and team merits from 2025. Spectators will be welcome. 12 noon start.
GREEN BOOKINGS
Wednesday 6th May – the green will be unavailable for members’ use as it has been booked for a private event.
Saturday 13th June – Churchtown Conservative Club B.J.P.O’Malley President’s Trophy – this competition is open to members of the Churchtown Conservative Club.
Sunday 19th July – Finals Day of L.V. Individuals competition – spectators welcome.
