COMPETITION NEWS 8 – SPRING PAIRS REPORT

SPRING PAIRS

Congratulations to Sue Andersen and Darren Edgerley on winning the Spring Pairs yesterday. This is a random doubles, with pairings drawn on the day and this was the second successive win for Sue in this competition, having won it with Jim Halsall in 2020. It is good to see Darren back bowling after a break of several years and this was his first competition win at the Hesketh Arms since winning the Rose Bowl in 2011.

Sue and Darren had reached the final after surviving a fightback by Janice Hobson and Fergal Wright in the semi-final to win 21-16 and their opponents in the final were the experienced pair of Dave Bedford and Keith Maiden. It also good to see Dave Bedford playing competitive bowls again and Keith returning to the Hesketh Arms after a break of fifteen years. Dave and Keith had reached the final with wins against Ray Sutton and Roy Webster (21-18), Roger Van Beever and Dave White (21-14) and Pat McArthur and John Unsworth (21-7).

The first half of the final was close with Dave and Keith leading 10-9 but Sue and Darren took control by scoring three 3s in five ends to run out convincing 21-10 winners.
