Following the latest Government guidance regarding Outdoor meeting of groups and the clarification from Sport England and UK Bowls.

We must adhere to the group of 6 guidance but we will still be allowed to bowl in our club if we follow Covid guidance on cleaning AND SOCIAL DISTANCING.

We should  be able to complete our Competitions and Round Robins and Maghull league mini League bowling.

COVID-19 UPDATE FOLLOWING GOVERNMENT CLARIFICATION

Further to yesterday’s statement, we are delighted to confirm that our clubs can continue to offer organised bowling activity in a Covid-safe manner.

Sport England has announced, following clarification from Government, that people can continue to take part in organised outdoor sports when restrictions on social gatherings are introduced from Monday 14^th September.

With the end of the season fast-approaching for the majority of our clubs, we trust players will continue to enjoy our sport in a socially-distant manner, particularly if wishing to play fours at this time.

We also encourage clubs to take this final opportunity to introduce new people to our sport through our ‘Let’s Roll’ initiative, which has already seen nearly 1,000 individuals sign up for a free trial session at their local club, and the Great British Week of Sport (Saturday 19^th September to Sunday 27^th September).

Club Non Random Doubles.

Congratulations to Sue Andersen and Jim Hallsall on winning the club doubles on Sunday.

Sue & Jim reached the finals by overcoming Graham Meadow & John Unsworth 21:12, John Hughes & John McCabe 21:11, Terry Corfield & Noel Morgans 21:12

Their opponents George Hitchmough & Pete Smith reached the final by overcoming Roger VanBeever & Laurie Townson 21:13. Brian Sutton & Alec Rimmer 21:13

The final was a one sided affair with Jim & Sue dominating getting three 3s and a 4 to establish a game winning lead finally winning 21:9

This was Jims’ second competition win of the season with Sue adding this to her winning of this event in 2018 with Ken Rimmer.

Consolation Competition.

Time was found to run a consolation competition with 7 pairs entering. The eventual winners were Derrek Wignall & Janice Hobson who overcome Pat & Barry McArthur in a closely fought final 17:12

CHAMPIONSHIP CUP & LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Next Sunday, 13th September sees the staging of the Championship Cup (men’s singles) and Ladies’ Championship, starting at 12 noon prompt. Please report by 11.45 am to allow time for the draw to be made. There are still place available in these competitions. The names already booked in can be seen below. PRESIDENT’S CUP
Congratulations to Chris Porter on winning the President’s Cup at the weekend, narrowly defeating Jim Halsall 21-20 in another closely fought final. Chris had appeared to be on course for a comfortable win as he led 18-12 but Jim won six consecutive ends to take the lead at 20-18. However, Chris was able to secure the three chalks required to take the title. This was Chris’s first club competition win at the Hesketh since winning the Championship Cup in 1988.

CHAIRMAN’S SHIELD
Congratulations to Brian Sutton and Dave White who won the Chairman’s Shield on Saturday, coming back from 20-15 down to win the final 21-20 against Mike Milne and Alex Rimmer. Brian and Dave had previously looked in control of the final as they led 15-11 but 9 chalks in three ends put Mike and Alex on the brink of victory. However, Brian found a brilliant bowl when lying game down and from 16-20, Brian and Dave scored the five chalks needed over four ends to take the title. Well done to Dave on claiming his first Hesketh Arms competition win.

We are currently working on the September competition dates and would hope to let you know by the weekend. We are endeavouring to run as many of our normal competitions as possible.

We expect the green will be closing on the 30^th of September.

ROSE BOWL

Congratulations to Jim Halsall on winning the Rose Bowl singles handicap, overcoming Peter Smith 21-17 in a closely fought final. Peter had held the advantage as he led 14-10 but Jim was able to count 4 twos in six ends at a crucial stage of the game to lead 16-15 and although Peter drew level at 17 across, Jim was able to score the four chalks required to take the title.  

This was Jim’s fifth singles win at the Hesketh Arms and seventh competition win in total, equalling Margaret Langley’s club record.

CHAIRMAN’S SHIELD

The next club competition will be the Chairman’s Shield, which will take place next Saturday, 22^nd August, starting at 12 noon. Please report to the green by 11.45 am to allow for a prompt start.
