LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP

The Club held it’s first ever Ladies’ Day at the weekend when fifteen members competed for the Ladies’ Championship. It was particularly pleasing to see several new recruits to the Club playing in their first competition, including some who have been taking part in the Bowls for Health sessions. We hope to see them again at future club events.

In a change of format, the early stages of the competition were played using a group system with the players divided into three groups of five, giving all participants four games. The three group winners qualified for the semi-finals along with the best runner-up. Sue Andersen, Margaret James and Chris McManus finished top of the three groups and the best runner-up was Sue Davies.

The semi-finals were won by Sue Andersen and former winner Sue Davies, who had a narrow 11-10 win against Chris McManus. In the final Sue Andersen started well, winning the first three ends and was able to maintain the good form she had been in all afternoon to claim the Ladies’ Championship for the first time with a 15-7 win.

Many thanks to those who helped with scoring, measuring and serving refreshments but in particular thanks must go to George Hitchmough for organising the excellent afternoon tea, which was extremely well received. Thank you also to the member who kindly donated prizes for the winner and runner-up
