SPRING PAIRS

SPRING PAIRS
Many thanks to all those who took part in the first one-day club competition of the season on Saturday, when 14 pairs competed for the Spring Pairs Trophy. It was particularly pleasing to see several members playing in their first club competition, having taken part in the Bowls for Health sessions last year.
This is a random pairs and some strong pairings were formed. In the top half of the draw, Kez Adams and Janice Hobson reached the final with three good wins, most notably in their second game against the strongly fancied pairing of Bill Bloor and Jeff Brown (21-15).
Their opponents in the final were Laurie Townson and Fergal Wright, whose closest match had been in their second round tie against Debbie Barnes and Kevin Leddy (21-18).
Laurie and Fergal started the final off strongly, scoring three at the second end and led 11-7 after seven ends. The eighth end turned out to be a turning point as Laurie and Fergal were counting four, only for Kez to come in with the last bowl of the end to take one chalk. A four for Kez and Janice at the next end put them into the lead and they were able to stay in control of the match from here to eventually win 21-14. Congratulations to all four players on an excellent final and especially to Janice on winning her first Hesketh Arms’ club competition.
